What Is Medical Weight Loss?

Medical weight loss is a physician-supervised program that uses prescription therapies, injections, nutrition strategies, and lifestyle support to help patients lose weight safely. Unlike fad diets or over-the-counter products, medical weight loss is tailored to your health history, body composition, and long-term goals.

At Vital AMC, our providers may prescribe:

GLP-1 receptor agonists such as Semaglutide, prescribed when medically appropriate

GLP-1 & GIP dual agonists such as Tirzepatide, prescribed when clinically indicated

Who Is Eligible for Medical Weight Loss?

Not everyone is a candidate for prescription-based weight loss therapies. Eligibility depends on factors such as:

  • Body Mass Index (BMI): Typically a BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with weight-related conditions (e.g., high blood pressure, prediabetes).
  • Medical History: Certain conditions or medications may affect eligibility.
  • Individual Goals: Our providers evaluate whether prescription therapies, injections, or lifestyle support alone are most appropriate.

During your consultation, we’ll review your health history, lab results, and weight-loss challenges to determine if GLP-1 (compounded semaglutide), GLP-1 & GIP dual agonists (compounded tirzepatide), or other weight loss support is right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions on Our Medical Weight Loss Services

What are GLP-1 medications for weight loss?

GLP-1 receptor agonists, such as Semaglutide and Tirzepatide, help regulate appetite and blood sugar, making it easier to lose weight. They are available in FDA-approved versions and, when in shortage, as compounded formulations from licensed pharmacies.

Are compounded Semaglutide or Tirzepatide safe?

Compounded medications are only prescribed when FDA-approved products are in shortage, and they must be sourced from qualified compounding pharmacies. Our providers follow strict safety guidelines when prescribing compounded formulations.

Do I need insurance for medical weight loss at Vital AMC?

No, our programs are offered through our Direct Primary Care membership or as separate medical services. Some patients choose to use insurance for labs or imaging when applicable, but insurance is not required.

Can I get Semaglutide or Tirzepatide through telemedicine?

Yes, Florida law permits licensed providers to prescribe via telehealth when clinically appropriate. All prescriptions require a consultation to ensure safety and eligibility.

How do MIC or Lipotropic injections work?

MIC and Lipotropic injections combine amino acids, vitamins, and nutrients that support fat metabolism, liver health, and energy production. They are often used alongside GLP-1 therapy or lifestyle programs.

How soon will I see results?

Results vary by patient. Many people begin noticing changes in appetite and weight within the first few weeks of consistent treatment, though sustainable results require long-term commitment to the program.

Compliance Disclaimer:

Compounded formulations are only prescribed in accordance with FDA guidance during drug shortages and must be sourced from regulated compounding pharmacies. All prescriptions require an individual consultation with a licensed provider under Florida law (Rule 64B8-11.001).

Dr. Kenneth Argote, APRN, FNP-C

Family Nurse Practitioner

“I grew tired of the traditional model of primary care. Patients deserve excellent, affordable care—delivered when they need it, not weeks later.”

Dr. Kenneth Argote is a board-certified, doctorally prepared Family Nurse Practitioner with more than 12 years of experience. He began his career at the University of South Florida, earning his Bachelor of Science in Nursing with honors before working in the Emergency Department and cardiac unit. His time caring for acutely ill patients sparked a realization: many hospitalizations could have been prevented with better primary care.

Motivated by this vision, he returned to USF to complete his Master of Science in Nursing with a focus on Family Primary Care in 2014, followed by his Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in 2019. Over the years, Dr. Argote has provided preventive, acute, and chronic care for patients of all ages while growing increasingly frustrated with how traditional insurance models limit patient outcomes.

In 2021, he founded Vital Advanced Medical Center to create a better way forward through Direct Primary Care—removing barriers, putting patients first, and providing care that is both high-quality and affordable. Today, he continues to lead the practice with a focus on whole-person health and long-term relationships.
